Taking HVAC savings to another level

Taking HVAC savings to another level

It’s this time of the year that I start thinking about new and different ways to save on the HVAC cooling bill.

I think I do this in the winter because I really don’t have any heating bills to speak of.

Where I live, the heat pump may come on occasionally during the winter but nothing much more than that. However, that same heat pump gets a huge workout when the spring temperatures start to rise. Many of us in this area have the air conditioning on by April and it stays on till late fall. That’s a lot of HVAC cooling and it comes with a price tag. For me, I’m just not willing to fork over the equivalent of a car payment on a very nice car for HVAC cooling. There are friends who spend so much on air conditioning that it just staggers me every time they tell me what they’re spending on HVAC comfort. Of course, my HVAC cost saving plan starts with an air conditioning tune up from the HVAC professional. This way, I’m getting the most efficient operation from heat pump. Then I follow the basics of sealing up the house tight, mitigating direct sunlight heating and maintaining thermostat discipline. All of this goes a very long way toward saving a lot on air conditioning. However, I like to take those savings to another level my adding something else each year. And I think this year I’ll add not using the stove or the oven to the list. I’ll do all my cooking outside on the gas grill. Won’t heat up the house and that’s less HVAC cooling needed and more money in my pocket.
