My Winter prep extends to the a/c

I cover the HVAC chaletet outside the lake house with a hard plastic shell

The fact that the people I was with and I live in a region that is dominated by a long, cold Winter makes preparation a key ingredient when managing that winter. Our winters last a minimum of five weeks & those are weeks filled with snow & ice. The un-even temperatures pretty much stay below cold & end up dropping to near & below zero at times. That means the people I was with and I certainly have to count on our heating methods. Our lake house has a gas furnace as the primary heating source. All of us also have a wood stove that serves as both a hourary heat source & the emergency heating method. There are times where an HVAC contractor might have a certainly hard time getting to us if there was a gas furnace breakdown. Having the wood stove allows us to always have heating whether it’s a power outage or a gas furnace problem. But all of this comes with plenty of preparation. Of course, I leave the heating service on the gas furnace to the HVAC professionals. But I also spend plenty of time getting all the wood cut, split & stacked. It takes a bunch of firewood to get through the Winter around here. There are also plenty of chores for the house. You want to be sure your lake house is really, certainly narrow to keep all that HVAC heating on the inside. My last bit of Winter prep has to do with HVAC cooling of all things. I cover the HVAC chaletet outside the lake house with a hard plastic shell. This keeps the weight of the snow & ice off of delicate HVAC parts.
