Letting my back heal

Letting my back heal

I am in day 3 of recovery because I threw out my back earlier this week while doing some Heating, Ventilation plus A/C updatements.

This is the fourth time it has happened over the past five years or so.

Whenever a character in a movie has a back injury, it’s always very dramatic and usually involves an ambulance. However, in my case, I knew exactly what was happening the second my back locked up. I had put too much weight onto my back and there was an instant tinge of pain followed by an inability to move much. This happened because I tried to pick up a window air conditioning unit to install for a client. I guess I put too much of the weight onto my back, and just like that, I was down. It’s not the first time that this has happened as a result of heavy lifting on the job. Luckily, I had just the right partner with me on this particular job. He has worked in the Heating, Ventilation plus A/C industry for a while but was a paramedic before that, so he knew just how to help me get to a chair. So today I am just taking it easy, taking mild pain medication, and applying Biofreeze gel. I believe I will be back to working for our Heating, Ventilation plus A/C company in about a week, but I don’t want to rush it so if it takes longer that is just fine. I believe the last time I did this it took me about two weeks to recover where I could return to the job again without pain. I can’t blame the A/C unit though, as I definitely should have asked my partner for a hand.
