My roommate and I are making a change
I would love to tell you about a bit of a close call our roommate and I had over the last winter; If you recall, it was the coldest Winter on record around these parts, and had a lot more snow and rain than the two of us normally get! My roomie and I are constantly prepared for a cold snap, however I have to admit the two of us were not prepared enough for something of this level.
First we ended up losing power, then I found our vehicles were snowed in, trapped, and unable to get into the city! All of us could leave the house, however it was too far to walk someplace. We found out that we needed electricity for all of the basic heating sources is the same thing as putting all your eggs in one basket! When the tote breaks you lose everything, which in case instance meant a major lack of heating. All of us covered up the windows with blankets and secured ourselves in the smallest room in the home an effort to use our own trapped body heating for warmth. It worked to some degree, however it also didn’t smell all that great and the sketchy air quality had us seeking other routes. This year the two of us will not make the same mistake, the two of us have a couple current chances when it comes to heating systems in the winter. This year even if we end up losing power the two of us have enough wood for the oil furnace to keep us moderate for 2 full weeks. I am also looking at replacing our cheap central heating system with one that runs off of natural gas instead of electricity.
